King Henry VIII, Richard Patterson will talk about his path as Location
and Time:
The
price for lunch will be $15 a head, for the meal, drink and dessert Hope to see you all there in garb, Klaus Saturday brought 54 Royal Guard to strut in our new position at the head of the parade. A fine showing indeed, even if there are some small snarls to overcome! In that the parade Route is reversed from previous years, many of the visitors to our lovely village were not prepared to see the reversal! Perhaps some of the Guard would like to make it known throughout the day, as they hand out recruitment cards (also provided to us this fine weekend) that the parade has a slight alterations, and instruct said Patrons as to where the best viewing would be. A drummer might be just the thing to lead off! We must needs respect any shows still in progress, which led to a slightly amusing sight of a totally silent Parade for the first few furlongs! We are quite proud of the showing of the Guard, with improved guard, high spirits, and a quite impressive turnout already of new GITs to join our ranks. Though Sunday was brisk and chill with winds like the Sahara desert, still 53 in all with Horse Guard, Halberdiers, Musketeers and our beloved green sashes, turned out to strut the lanes. Those who came to play, to help at King's Luncheon, at Chess Match, and at knighting Ceremony are all greatly appreciated. If you should wish to help at any of said venues, do not hesitate to approach your Officers or Corporals (Curran or myself especially if for Knighting) and ask how you may be of service. Remember that for Knighting you need a strong presence and good *projecting voice*. We are most delighted to assist you in learning these things! Onward we go to next Weekend, Easter Services! Yours in the Guard Corp Capt Marga,
Dame Den Mother, SRG Second Weekend April 11th and 12th Saturday brought wonderful crowds, sunshine but moderate temperature, and a goodly turnout of Guard. With the Town Herald and a cadre of 'Gyptians making a fore-parade spectacle, there were many more Patrons gathered along the route. Though the sky darkened, the rains held away until after final cannon. Sunday was cool and crisp. Easter services in home parishes kept many away in the earlier house. Would they had remembered our own 16th C Service was held on the grounds! It was lovely to behold, with the ladies of court properly and penitently veiled, carrying Easter Lilies. Still all in all, twenty Guard were in the parade, strutting for those who love the faire as much as ourselves. New third-strut stripes were awarded to several in attendance. Nearing four of the clock, the skies cleared, the sun shone, and the day brightened, quite literally. Court dance was beautiful, and there was a full joust on damp sands. Until next weekend and Highland Fling, Remember, we do not walk, we do not march, we STRUT! Corp Capt Marga,
Dame Den Mother Third Weekend April 18th and 19th Saturday saw our Traditional Elfing of the Gnome. Yes, at some point each year, we do indeed give Noobler back his Oreos! Sunday dawned brisk and clear, with breeze and much less mud. 56 Guard put forth in parade to cheer and wave to the crowds. Many thanks again to those who have assisted in Guarding during King's Luncheon, in body-carrying, in Escort Duty, and in Knighting Ceremony. It is quite a sight to see the King and Queen flanked by Scarlets and Halberdiers with a cadre of green sashes behind. Those who have attended Knighting Ceremony have greatly improved in their vocal projection over the noise of the crowd and skirl of the pipes that play at the same time as Knighting. Once again, our continued and heartfelt thanks to all who proudly wear the Green. Yours in the
Guard
FourthWeekend April 25th & 26th At the suggestion of several guard, a sewing repair kit now resides in the Guard Tent! Guard should also not forget that water and "swill" are available at all times at the Tent as well. We are most amused to note that now Noobler the Gnome ducks after his customary line delivery, anticipating perhaps, the repeat of a volley of biscuits chucked his way! Parade crowd is growing, and the enthusiasm of the guard is much appreciated. Set your caps and wear your best next weekend for May Day and the Coronation of our Goode King Henry (Eighth to bear that name). Whatever the weather will bring, it promised to be a wonderous weekend! Yours in the Guard, Corp Capt Marga
Fifth Weekend May 2nd & 3rd Again as dawn broke over the Village of Scarborough, the atmosphere was charged. Charged with energy, off the electrical kind, and of the excitement variety. Unfortunately, the electrical kind left some muddy places in it's wake, however, this did not slow down the majority of die-hard Fairegoers. The Pollen count did a few in (including yours truly) as the Pecan Grove decided to shower all with green fuzzies and dust. Nonetheless, with the anticipation of the (re)Coronation on Sunday, there was much excitement in the village. A new Corporal was promoted to the Halberdiers, raising loud Huzzahs from the Guard at our beloved Muster point. With the Guard strutting out at Parade front, we are seeing many Flemish Painting Images posted around the great Spider-WWWeb. So many of our own in their finest - what a proud site. Sunday morning brought many in trembling anticipation of the historical event. Though most had no idea what exactly to expect, all played their roles to the extent that the event looked quite impressive from every angle. Fifty-and-one guards not only strutted parade, but unselfishly stood attendance in an aisle for the Royal Procession. These fine Yeoman had no view of the Coronation itself, yet were willing to stand and play their role. For this we give thanks and Three Huzzahs! Without you, the ceremony would not have been quite so grand. The Regalia (of which the Village of Scarborough owns one of nine authorized copies) were carried in state from the Yorkshire Tower by the Peers and Nobles of the Court. The Scarlets (Officers) and Halberdiers escorted His Majesty, with the train of his Ten-yard robe being carried proudly by the Gentleman Spears. To the slow cadence of a drum, this royal procession wound up the lane, across the high road, through the path of Guard, and into the Crown Pavilion. Packed with peerage and patrons, the sounds were only those of shutterbugs snapping their wings. With great pomp, the Oath was administered, the Crown placed upon the Kings head, and fealty sworn for all by the Archbishop of Canterbury, His Grace the Duke of Suffolk, and Scarborough's own beloved Jamieson Rooke. There were many teary eyes in the audience, from those witnessing and involved. It was truly an honor to be involved in a historic moment. The amount of pride in all who make Scarborough possible is beyond what words can convey. As always, heartfelt thanks to those who proudly wear the colors of the Royal Guard. Yours, Corp Capt Marga |
