        Guardians of the lists

Joust “Corpse Duty” – At the conclusion of the 6 o’clock Royal Joust, corpses of fallen knights and squires often litter the Lists. They must be carried off the field of battle so that they don’t start to smell. It is the duty of stalwart Royal Guards to place the bodies onto litters and carry them off for a proper Christian burial. Guards who wish to participate gather at Legacy Forge (near the Lists) around 5:40PM, where they are briefed by the officers as to their individual responsibilities. The brawniest are assigned as litter-bearers, and the remainder to standing guard over weapons and/or the Royals. Some days, only four litter bearers are required. Other days, replacement bearers are needed due to the large number of fallen knights. We rarely know in advance, so ALL who wish to assist are welcome and appreciated. The work is hard and tiring, but you get a peek behind the scenes at Joust, and earn the appreciation of the jousting knights.
